Fall in St. Maarten

I don't really know how I have gotten so behind, but I have! I guess I just kept waiting for something exciting to happen to post about it and then I just kept procrastinating because I wasn't really sure where to start- and now it is almost the end of October! Woops! Sorry guys!

Just to update everyone, there haven't been any serious hurricanes so far which is disappointing (I know that I shouldn't say this but I am being honest), but we did have a few scares. I don't even feel like it has rained that much for it to be "rainy season." One good thing has come out of hurricane season though, and that is that our hurricane shutters were put down-which is very nice. They are similar to having screens on the doors, so now I leave the doors open all day and have privacy without any bugs! Hooray!

I still haven't started my job yet, but I signed a retainer agreement with them- so that's good. I have my first IEP meeting at the end of this week, which is a sign that therapy is about to get rolling. I have also been doing the fake patient thing, which has been increasingly challenging because my characters are kinda crazy! I really like doing it though, and I feel like I am getting some good experience! I will have to save some of these stories for another day!

Ryan has been doing VERY well this semester and studying his behind off! He has been making excellent grades, and I am so very proud of him! I have been hanging out with the spouses a lot more, and I am VERY ready to come home for Christmas! My parents recently moved to Oxford, MS (where Ryan and I met and went to college). I am so happy for them, and I hate that I can't be there to help them. I am so ready to see their new home!

It has been very weird not having Fall here. This is the first time in my life when I have not had a fall season, and I have to say that it is really strange. Don't get me wrong, I love having nice, warm weather everyday.. but there is just something about the fall that it ingrained in me. For instance, I miss my fall wardrobe- boots, jeans, scarves, etc. I also miss the leaves changing colors, and the crispness of the air. You see what I am getting at? This is also the first football season of Ole Miss that I have not had season tickets to in over 7 years! Woah.. Am I that old? It does make it a little easier to be away, watching how terrible Ole Miss has been playing. But I still miss the Grove atmosphere with all of the good smelling food with friends and family.

Enough of this pity-party though! Hey- I live in the Caribbean right? So here are some pictures from this fall:
I took this picture of a picture to show Ben that he made the wall at Brother Jimmy's when he was here visiting!

Carissa, Zack, and me

I was trying to be artsy but really, it's just the different barbecue sauces...

Zack and Tim- not sure why Zack is making that face!

Here are some pictures of me and some spouses hanging out:
We went out to eat for Amanda's last night, and there were too many plates on the table!

We will miss you Amanda! Such a fun night though!
(From Left to Right- Whitney, Lara, Me, Jackie, Katherine, and Amanda)

I threw a The Help Southern potluck party at our place before we all went to go see The Help at the movies! We had to dress up like the girls from the book/movie and we all made Southern dishes- green bean casserole, baked beans, sweet tea, watermelon, etc. Note my fancy apron. This is Katherine in the picture who is from South Carolina, so this picture is of the "real Southern girls." ha ha

Jackie and Me. Isn't Jackie's Betty Boop wig fabulous?

A group shot after I made the girls watch a slide show that I created on the many positives of Mississippi. I figured I could at least promote my home state, and make it educational too!

Movie night! Jackie and me while we are watching Water for Elephants

A big group of us spouses after our yummy brunch!

Another shot of us at movie night!

Amanda (we call her Panda) and Melissa and baby Emma!

Aaron and Docie after blocks. We went to Karakter to eat and have fun at the beach there.

Ryan and me sweating to death, waiting to get our food

Ryan making one of his funny faces

Here is another

This is much better

Ryan still managed to make a funny face in this one

Ahhhh

Still ahhhh!

Really Ryan?

Here is the beach still at Karakter on the other side of the airport

Here is part of the runway that is fenced off

The island of Saba off in the distance

Here is a little naked French baby that was playing in the sand next to us. I thought that this was hilarious  and Ryan thought that I was being perverted by taking this picture. I just had to though!

The sun is starting to go down

I tried out my panoramic feature on my camera.. not bad

Cool clouds over the mountains

This little guy was all over the place, and I was so happy to see a crab here! I think it is my first one to see and it reminded me of the crabs in Florida!

Docie's dog, Suerte, in action

There was a really pretty sunset

So pretty!

We had a little too much fun with mustache tattoos!

A group of us spouses went to Pinel Island for the day a couple of weeks ago, and it was fabulous! We took the ferry that morning at 10 a.m. and stayed all day until about 4 p.m. It was so pretty there, and the water was very clear.

Before we got in the ferry. This is a view of the island off in the water.

The ferries

Here is Jackie, Madeline, Jamie, and Allie!

Me, Rita, and Allyson! We are waiting on the ferry.

On the ferry and ready to go!

View from the ferry and of the mountains on the mainland.

Soo pretty

This is the scary man that drove us to Pinel Island. He was very friendly to us, but he had a very maniacal laugh which made us all a little freaked out.

Postcard picture once we got to Pinel Island.

The dock at Pinel Island.

The water was so clear and shallow, and we literally stayed in it the entire time.

Allie and Madeline relaxing.

I love this picture of us on the dock!

So long Pinel Island!

After selling burritos, some of us spouses went to Maho to shop around and have fun:
Jackie and I having a little too much fun with the bright pink lipstick!

Another one of us being silly

Yah, Mon!

Lara and Madeline! Nice!

Here is one of my favorites, Priyal! We are so ready for the new Twilight movie to come out! Yay!
We made our own 3D picture! haha

Ok, I better take a break from the picture loading for now! Thank you to Mary Love Sledge for the wonderful package that you sent me with lots of Halloween treats and decorations! I am so happy and excited to have real Halloween candy here! You are so thoughtful!

Also, I wanted to tell everyone about my funny experience having my hair highlighted and cut here, but I will save that for another day, because I feel like I have been sitting at my computer for way too long.

Ryan and I have booked our flights home for the holidays, and we can't wait! Wooo Hoooo! I will fill you in on the details later! So goodbye for now!
