Heineken Regatta 2012, What What!

I had a HUGE weekend with a lot of my friends from the Spouses Organization, and it was a blast! It was actually a little too much fun, and I am still recovering!
On Saturday, we had a brunch for one of our friends that is taking a leave of absence from the island. We are sad to see her go, but it was good to get together one last time in her honor. We had brunch at this delicious place, The Taste Factory. It has tons of French pastries, quiches, etc. Here are some pictures of us there:

After The Taste Factory, a few of us went shopping until it was time for the movies. We went and saw "The Vow," and it was fabulous! I think we all cried! I highly recommend it!

Then on Sunday, we all went on the Lambada boat for the Heineken Regatta! YAY! It was very fun, but I wish that it would have lasted longer! It was really cool to go around the island on a big catamaran.
Here is a picture of it:
I wasn't really sure what we would be in for because there were like 65 people on the boat, but as we got closer to all of the action- I gradually figured it out. I don't know much about sailboats or even racing sailboats.. but here is my take on it: There were tons of sailboats, and they were all racing in a line. There were various giant buoys all along the ocean where the sailboats would have to go on different sides of the buoy or even make a circle around them. It was kinda crazy to see such big boats maneuver that quickly on such big waves in the ocean. It didn't seem like they were going that fast- until we caught up with them. You could actually see the different boat crews on each sailboat working very hard. It was very windy that day too, so I am sure that they were working even harder than I know. We actually got pretty close to them, and at one point- I felt like we were in the race. Needless to say, it was an exciting day!

The following are pictures that Jackie and Lyssa took and posted to facebook. I am going to put my pictures at the bottom, just so I don't take credit for any pictures that I didn't take.

My hair got in the way but this is Jackie, Me, Lyssa, and Lara

Well, that's about all folks!

Sadly, Ryan had to miss out on the Heineken Regatta fun due to lots and lots of studying. His COMPS are this Friday, March 9th! He has been preparing for a long time, so I know that he is going to do amazing on them! Ryan and a lot of the other students are already planning fun things to do after their COMPS, so I am sure that I will have more pictures to post after this weekend!
Please keep Ryan in your thoughts and prayers as he takes his test on Friday.

I hope that everyone has a great week! Stay tuned for more pictures, in case any of the other girls took some that are "blog worthy." :)

  1. Good morning how are you?
My name is Emilio, I am a Spanish boy and I live in a town near to Madrid. I am a very interested person in knowing things so different as the culture, the way of life of the inhabitants of our planet, the fauna, the flora, and the landscapes of all the countries of the world etc. in summary, I am a person that enjoys traveling, learning and respecting people's diversity from all over the world.
I would love to travel and meet in person all the aspects above mentioned, but unfortunately as this is very expensive and my purchasing power is quite small, so I devised a way to travel with the imagination in every corner of our planet. A few years ago I started a collection of used stamps because trough them, you can see pictures about fauna, flora, monuments, landscapes etc. from all the countries. As every day is more and more difficult to get stamps, some years ago I started a new collection in order to get traditional letters addressed to me in which my goal was to get at least 1 letter from each country in the world. This modest goal is feasible to reach in the most part of countries, but unfortunately it’s impossible to achieve in other various territories for several reasons, either because they are countries at war, either because they are countries with extreme poverty or because for whatever reason the postal system is not functioning properly.
For all this I would ask you one small favour:
Would you be so kind as to send me a letter by traditional mail from Netherlands Antilles? I understand perfectly that you think that your blog is not the appropriate place to ask this, and even, is very probably that you ignore my letter, but I would call your attention to the difficulty involved in getting a letter from that country, and also I don’t know anyone neither where to write in Netherlands Antilles in order to increase my collection. a letter for me is like a little souvenir, like if I have had visited that territory with my imagination and at same time, the arrival of the letters from a country is a sign of peace and normality and an original way to promote a country in the world. My postal address is the following one:
    Emilio Fernandez Esteban
Avenida Juan de la Cierva, 44
    28903 Getafe (Madrid)
    Spain
If you wish, you can visit my blog www.cartasenmibuzon.blogspot.com where you can see the pictures of all the letters that I have received from whole World.
Finally I would like to thank the attention given to this letter, and whether you can help me or not, I send my best wishes for peace, health and happiness for you, your family and all your dear beings.

    Yours Sincerely

    Emilio Fernandez
